Did you know that Kansas is home to one of the bird watching hot spots of the country from August-October? The Quivira National Wildlife Refuge is getting ready to fill up with thousands of migrating birds.

The Quivira NWR boasts some pretty spectacular features. Just a short 4 hours from Kansas City, the refuge consists of prairie, inland salt marsh, and freshwater wetland habitats.

The site is a safe haven for several threatened and endangered species, including the Whooping Crane. Be sure to pack a lunch and bring your camera.
