KC to remove warrants for failure to pay/appear in minor traffic violations

Mayor Lucas announced via Twitter today that he intends to change the city code yet again. This time he is tackling the issue with arrest warrants being issued for a failure to appear/pay in minor traffic violations.

The move would create an administrative court that will handle all parking tickets and non moving violations. The change would also remove the possibility of incarceration during any part of the process.

Mayor Lucas tweeted the following this morning. ” Unfortunately, it’s common for those who can’t pay fines won’t appear in court and receive arrest warrants for their failure to pay/appear. We’re proposing to change in KC.”
