Flint Hills Scenic Byway offers breathtaking views while social distancing

Flint Hills Scenic Byway – Kansas

With all of us trying our best to practice social distancing, a family day trip through some of the most beautiful tallgrass prairies in the country could be just what your family needs when this is all over. The Flint Hills Scenic Byway was designated on September 22nd, 2005 and has been impressing visitors ever since.

The round trip from Kansas City takes about 5 hours total. We’re sure you’ll find plenty of spots to stop and take in the beauty and get some good photos so add some more time if planning a trip. Some of the spots you’ll see include the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve with its showcase limestone mansion as well as the Scenic Byway Overlook that gives you a 360-degree panoramic view of the tallgrass prairie.

The Byway begins in Council Grove, KS and winds through the prairies down to Cassoday, KS.

If you’re feeling even more adventurous, there is an extension of this byway that is made up of primarily gravel roads and extends the trail for about 58 miles. Check out the Flint Hills Wildlife Drive
