Home school field trip with history, geography and PE all at Kaw Point

The kids and I were looking for something to do in KC that we had never done. I’d heard of Kaw Point Park but had never made it down so we decided to check it out. We were not disappointed.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition arrived at Kaw Point, the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri rivers, on June 26, 1804. They camped at Kaw Point for three days to rest, repair their boats and explore the surrounding countryside.

The park has a wooded walking trail as well as a boat ramp and boardwalk (PE). It presented ample opportunities to discuss the Lewis & Clark expedition and the Louisiana Purchase (history). Located at the point where the Missouri and Kansas rivers meet gave us the chance to discuss some geography and the areas up and down both rivers that we have visited.

All in all it was a nice afternoon trip to get the kids out of the house for a bit and to learn some interesting KC area history.

Look up this week KC. The Lyrid Meteor Shower starts April 16th.
