Don Chilito’s to close after 50 years

After 50 years in business, Don Chilito’s in Mission, KS is closing it’s doors. In an interview with Fox 4, owner Barry Cowden said it’s time for him to close the doors on the business his father opened in 1971. The business has been dealing with pushback on it’s anti mask stance as of late and has set the date of Dec 11, 2021 for it’s last day in business. Cowden has said he plans on selling the property.





New bar gives 10% off food and 15% off booze for local heroes and families

Harley’s Hideaway Bar & Grill in Shawnee, KS has just opened up and is offering some great discounts to active duty, veterans, families of military, first responders and teachers. The offer is for 10% off food purchases and 15% off of alcohol. The offer is not good for online ordering and they ask that you provide your ID.



The restaurant is coming out swinging with this offer as well as some other great deals for us normal folk. Wednesday is .75 wing day and they have a free comedy show! I’ll be making a stop soon to check these guys out.




Whataburger announces plan for a 3rd Kansas City location

Whataburger mania has officially hit Kansas City. The burger chain is looking to hire 3 general managers for the new Kansas City area locations. The newest location added to the mix will be in Independence, Missouri.

Lee’s Summit restaurant to take over old Nick & Jakes off Plaza

Third Street Social – Lee’s Summit, MO

The owners of Summit Grill Restaurants are opening a new Third Street Social location. The new location will be in the old Nick & Jakes just south of the Plaza.



No date has been given but they are shooting for an early 2021 opening. The new location will be at 5031 Main St. in Kansas City, Missouri .


Grilled Sunflower Heads are a thing and people love it

Kansas City seems like the perfect spot for the latest food craze, grilled sunflower heads. People are raving about these grilled flowers that you can eat just like corn on the cob. I think I’ll give this one a shot.



It seems easy enough to do and people seem to really like them. After a bit of prep, you grill the head for about 5 minutes on medium heat. The short video below should be a big help. Happy eating!
